As
one of the performing ensembles in The United States
Air Force Academy Band, Rampart
Winds is featured as the
traditional woodwind quintet. Having attended some
of the most prestigious conservatories and universities in
the
United
States,
each member of the ensemble has acquired a wealth
of musical knowledge and experience. The quintet’s
engaging approach to clinics and workshops makes the ensemble
a favorite among
academic circles.
As experienced clinicians, the members of Rampart
Winds
offer a number of clinic formats for band students
from the elementary
through college levels.
A typical master class could be described as a clinic/recital combination
in which musical issues are discussed and then demonstrated aurally
through the performance of musical examples. Some of the topics
covered include how to build consistency on an instrument through
daily warm-up routines, how to maximize results from practice sessions
and make them fun, how to combat the effects of performance anxiety,
and the unique challenges of rehearsing and performing chamber
music. This approach provides the music student the opportunity
to interact with a full-time, professional woodwind quintet.
Rampart
Winds strive to make the art of learning an instrument
a fun and fulfilling experience! The ensemble also strives
to build bridges
of understanding between music students and the
United States Air Force by discussing the unique musical
and non-musical opportunities
and life-long benefits the United States Air Force
has to offer. In addition to this format, the ensemble offers
other master class
formats such as coaching of small ensembles in
chamber music performance, coaching of band sectionals, and
providing individual instrument
clinics. Rampart Winds is also involved in another
educational outreach program in which music students, selected
by their respective
band directors, are given the opportunity to perform
a selection with the ensemble during a public concert. These
numerous options
allow flexibility in catering to the specific needs
of music educators and students. The quintet encourages students
to actively participate
by performing and asking questions. In this type
of meaningful exchange, the learning process becomes a reciprocal
and fulfilling
one.
Rampart Winds is also available to perform and present master
class at state music education conferences, as well as national
and international music conferences.
